PURPOSE
A Maintenance Hole permit is a permit that allows a person owning or controlling any underground pipe or wire system the ability to open appurtenant maintenance holes. The City can also issue a Maintenance Hole Permit to a sewer contractor to open sewer or storm drain maintenance holes for determining the depth of sewer or storm drains.
DEFINITION
A maintenance hole is the top opening to an underground utility vault used to house an access point for making connections, inspection, valve adjustments or performing maintenance on underground and buried public utility and other services including water, sewers, telephone, electricity, storm drains, district heating and gas.
