Geocoding Guidelines

Geocoding is a geographic marker placed within Navigate LA.  This action needs to be completed in the permit application system prior to or immediately after the permit is issued.

  1. Click on the “Geocode / View Location(s) – NEW” button
  2. If the exact map of the project location is not generated, then enter the job address in the location search box
  3. The Tools menu displays three methods to geocode a permit. Staff shall place the geocoding as close as possible to the actual work area and use the guidance below for determining which tool to use
    1. Draw Point Location: Adds a point location. This method shall be utilized for projects with small footprints
    2. Draw Polyline Location: Adds a polyline location. This method shall be utilized for projects with medium-sized footprints
    3. Draw Polygon Location: Adds a polygon location. This method shall be reserved for projects with large footprints
  4. Click on the "Save" button to save the geocoding
